#ComeOnYouYellows

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Standing at my sister’s bedroom window
I used to watch half the match.
Not a forty-five minute half,
but half the pitch; the Warbro Road end.
The old pop-side-terrace shed blocked
my view of the rest.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Now I see the match through a screen,
sitting on my settee. That shed
is long gone but with grounds closed
I must live-stream the action
on my laptop. The view is better,
but the atmosphere’s flat.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Through the pane, across the road,
I could hear the fans roar,
sense their excitement as United attacked.
That’s missing now. Instead I hear
managers and players curse and shout.
And I can SHOUT too, on Twitter.

Notes

As a child I watched games from our house across the street from Plainmoor. Now I’m enjoying the new experience of ‘going to the match’ by live streaming to my laptop. Unlike the Premier League ripping off fans who have bought season tickets and TV subscription services I can support my team by paying money through the virtual turnstile. And I can join in with other tweeting fans.
