Conquerors All

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 what’s in a name?
the FA Cup
the oldest football tournament in the world

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 it was way way back
in nineteen twelve
when our football world like Charlie Chaplin
was still black and white

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 long before
Arthur Scargill Dickie Bird
Michael Parkinson Ian McMillan
when families struggled to survive
and Barnsley men
worked mines and mills
but for one great day
donned flat caps rosettes and rattles
and pooled coppers from tins
to make a twice played Final
a replay and the Cup was theirs

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 fifteen year on
in twenty seven
when flappers and deco ruled
it was Cardiff’s day
the first team
to take the trophy
outside of England
such a day fro Wales

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 but who was it
that held the Cup for the longest time?
it was Portsmouth
when Pompey chimes rang loud and clear
the eve of War in thirty nine..
and hold it they did
til peace was restored

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 another fifteen years
and this time it was the Baggies in fifty four
when West Brom
majestic and striped like convicts freed
rose to win the day
at Wembley

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 and now
a century and half a century on
they rise again
and isn’t this what it’s all about
conquerors all

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 to
Barnsley Portsmouth
West Bom and Cardiff
we say
thank you for restoring dreams
and thank you for restoring faith
in the magic of our game…
conquerors all
indeed

Notes

what an amazing weekend..
passion ..fire and determination from four sides who brushed aside opposition..
even for me as a Blues fan to see Chelsea ,Man U and Boro ..not forgetting brave Rovers banished in such style ..it brought out so much
so well done to players staff and fans alike. conquerors all.
