Craig Fleming

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The ever-reliable dependable defender
Ever present stalwart
One of the best buys we ever bought
Over the years he lost his hair
No easy life being captain
Though we always politely clapped him
We took him for granted
Worthington knew Craigs worth, Grant didn’t
He was bundled up with linament
And given over to Rotherham
They won’t get bother from him
So goodbye and good luck Craig
Our loyalty to you will not renege
You have the true mark of a man
– In the gents urinals
You stood in suede boots, in line
Shaking hands with fans
Before they reached the sink
Beyond the call of duty, I think
But no more than we came to expect
From our quietly hard centre-half

Notes

Ten good years, including a testimonial. A northerner, not given to fuss and fanfare, just did his job. As the Barclay boys noted many times: There’s only one ‘F’ in Fleming.
