Cup Final Moments

days that are gone now forever and ever
days when you woke with a gleam in your eye
days when we didn’t have the money or Sky
the only game live on the tele back then
everything began around ten a.m
fifty years back fifty years gone
memories memories coming on strong
glory and passion hope and despair
Cup Final moments hung in the air

but I missed Matthews wowing the nation
back in our house well we had to wait
our first tele came in ’58
United and Bolton flooding my sight
dazzling the country in black and white

we sat glued for hours and hours
all of us moved by the Munich disaster
willing on the Reds as hearts beat faster
big Nat Lofthouse ruined their day
barging one in and blowing them away

billed as classics and hyped up the same
always the passion always the dream
always the same whatever the team
romance fantasy blue and white hair

91 and the madness went on
Gazza lost the plot and it’s still going wrong
nerves keep jangling upsets despair

Di Matteo with heart and soul

Gooners and Scousers flooding that town
everybody sayin’ the magic’s all gone
but all through the Noughties the dream went on
pot luck-lottery we don’t care
