Darkness Descending

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I see no escape, just an imposing fence.
The numbing pain I feel is now so intense.
I feel a surge of pressure, rolling like a wave.
Is this terrace taking me to my grave?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 It’s time to close my eyes, I’m slipping away.
Silent prayers and goodbyes, it’s time to say.
Darkness descends, the sun shines no more.
I’ve given up all hope, no more fight in store,

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 ‘This one is alive,’ words I can just make out.
I am lying on the football pitch, chaos all about.
Carried to safety, from the crush I was freed.
I owe my life and survival, to a hero’s deed

Notes

New poem based on a survivors harrowing account, who gave up all hope of survival during the Leppings Lane crush.
