Day 01 Sonnet

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 yes, oh yes, ooh yes, oooh yeeesss! It’s here at last
no more endless re-runs, of World Cups from the past
it’s time, in heart and Seoul, for the 2002 Opening Ceremony
all set, drinks and snacks and the next generation, sitting on my knee
the 2002 World Cup finals, from Korea and Japan
so eagerly awaited, by each and every football fan
although perhaps the Irish, are not now quite so keen
as they arrive in jovial hordes, a-wearin’ of the green
their leader and captain, sent home in disgrace
after cussing and swearing, straight to his managers face
and they too, had an injury scare, to Jason McAteer
joining Zidane, Beckham, Neville, Gerrard, Dyer, some to miss out, I fear
first match today, as tradition dictates, the holders France
versus Senegal, look set to lead the debutantes, a merry dance

Notes

Let the contest begin!
Let’s hope all the wait is worth it and that the event lives up to all the hype
