Day 06 : Kean-o, there’s only one Kean-o

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Kean-o, there’s only one Kean-o

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And it’s Robbie, not Roy
Who brings us so much joy

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The King is dead, long live the King!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 How quickly the old heroes are forgotten!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 It was no more than they deserved
Qualification hopes, were thereby preserved
A scintillating finish, from one R. Keane
A slayer, a stayer, loyal and true, you know what I mean?
He’s ever so sharp, is our Robbie
But we don’t know where he stood, in the lobby
For Roy’s re-inclusion
And it’s true, amidst all the confusion
The younger lads, bemused and crestfallen, were overlooked
In the opinion of the pundits, their goose was cooked
But despite being so neglected
Their fighting spirit, was reflected
With fiery, feisty, endeavour and determination
Two battling draws, raising hopes of qualification

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Anyway, it must have been Irish Day in Japan
For the USA, produced a shock, all heroes to a man
San José Earthquakes, one of their indigenous teams
But this seismic surprise, will help further international dreams
Wide on the right, Donovan, soon had them singing
A wicked deflection, from one of the crosses he kept pinging
And goals from O’Brien and McBride
Made it a perfect day, for fervent Celtic pride

Notes

For the record :

Ireland 1 Germany 1
USA 3 Portugal 2
Russia 2 Tunisia 0

Two opening draws, may not sound so impressive
But it’s even brought a smile, to Dunphy the depressive

Eamonn Dunphy, ex Man U and Millwall, back in the seventies
now a journalist, radio presenter and tv football pundit,
noted for his sarcasm and put downs, so much so,
that he was the presenter for the Irish version of ‘The Weakest Link’
He has been particularly scathing of Mick McCarthy,
over the Roy Keane affair –
But then again, he is writing the official Roy Keane biography!
