Dear Brian Dear

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
A trifle overweight
Far too many trifles
Had been emptied from your plate!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
For Fulham not prolific
Stayed about a year
Didn’t look terrific

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
Now Fulham’s socks were red
In that particular year
This all came to a head

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
A clash of socks no less
The referee was severe
“You’ll have to change them, bless”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
“The away team are in red
You whites get back in here
Your red socks you must shed”

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
Almost to a man
Away to change their gear
To the Cottage Fulham ran

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
The tubby old campaigner
“Get the socks out here!”
He shouted to the trainer

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
While the others ran inside
He waited on his rear
For two white socks outside

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Oh dear, dear Brian Dear
He sat there in the box
As a thousand laughing fans
Watched him change his socks

A trifle overweight
Far too many trifles
Had been emptied from your plate!

Notes

I think Brian Dear played for Fulham in 1969. The above describes an occasion when Fulham, who played in red socks that season, were told to change them by the ref during the warm-up as the opposition (can’t remember who) were also in red.
