DEARY DEARY ME

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I wander into the ground,
filled with excitement and suspense.
They said it would be easy,
But the atmosphere is still tense.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We haven’t won in four you see,
and the boys are looking tired.
Today should be different though,
or the fans will want someone fired.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 They kicked off with the sound of that high pitched whistle,
I start to chant our teams song.
As things are looking good,
The rest start to sing along.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 At half time it is goaless,
quite unfair you may say.
We’ve had all the possesion,
but the stripes keep us at bay.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Twenty minutes in,
It’s looking rather bleak.
The stripes are darting in to our area,
and the defence is looking weak.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 two minutes to full time,
it looks like another goaless draw.
But here come the stripes again,
oh christ! he’s managed to score.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Soon after the referee blows that fatal whistle,
were in the bottom three.
What can we do to get better? i think
Oh deary deary me.

Notes

this poem is about a local sunday league team who my father manages. As you can see they are not doing so well unfortunately.
