Diabolical ! Hansen’s Off ~ 11 haiku

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 when the World Cup ends
we lose someone unafraid
to hit home his point

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “passion depth and skill..
pace and movement from the back” …
Hansen will be missed

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 love or loathe his voice
he taught us to analyse
how we watch the game

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 sometimes it felt like
all the BBC pundits
came from Liverpool

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 sat there in that chair
as important as the ball …
so he’d like to think

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 obstinate and strong
laid back in his tight trousers
and those well-pressed shirts

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 on his head that scar
from a door he walked into …
or was it?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 never lost for words
blasting full backs down the years
Alan’s left his mark

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 dour deadpan look
never sitting on some fence..
came out with stuff like….

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 “stonewall penalty….
you cant win with kids…
diabolical!”

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 it will sure seem strange
when Match of the Day comes back
without Alan there*

Notes

*(…not counting Alan Shearer of course)…

This after reading a great article by the Guardian’s leading sports writer on the departure of Alan Hansen (and 5 Live’s Mike Ingham) from the BBC .
