Down go the heroic lions

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The last blaze of the eve saw the British lions,
Tamed, and exhausted on the Lisborn’s green;
Gazing at the shines of the foodlights, above,
They were blinded by the dazzling embers.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Tears and sweat damped the whole turf.
The missed penalty, unforgiven,
The disallowed goal, unforgotten,
And misery settled within the players’ hearts.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 London’s lights, extinguished,
Wails echoed through the Thames and the Tees…
England had died in Euro 2004
At the gleaming swords of the Portugueses.
