Down to Earth

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Norwich City FC
Long known as a passing side
Today passed on to League One
Fondly remembered, now gone

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The lucky scarves have hanged themselves
Lucky socks defeated
Lucky hats have headed home
As relegation is repeated

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 League One awaits
Like the third tier of a wedding cake
Saved for the christening
Or, more likely, the wake

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A nine month gestation period
Usually leads to birth and celebration
All August to May have given us
Is disappointment and demonstrations

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 It’s only a game and matters not
In a big wide world of ills
Fans have dumped their shirts and walked away
Tonight our city is still

Notes

And tomorrow? Well 18,000 have already renewed their season tickets. The fans who threw down their shirts in disgust will creep back later to retrieve them, or buy new ones. Why? Hope is incurable.

Four years ago, Norwich City were in the Premiership. Today, we are relegated to League One. Fifty years ago, we were in the FA Cup Semi Final.

Well done to Barnsley, your team did their job today.
