For those in the badlands –
The ‘Championship’
Salvation lay in the fabled Premiership
Path to this Eldorado was not for the faint hearted
Muggers, Giants, and dragons
Only the fittest and brave led the way.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 For the past few seasons
Lost in the desert leading to play-off
Dwindling in resources
But wealthy in hope, determination and
Faith in the Gaffer, to
Build a team worthy of the task.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 “I’ve sent for a seasoned warrior
And a young gun, to bolster my team
The road to the play-offs shall be smoother”,
The Gaffer announced.
The warrior and the young gun rode in
Emblazoned on their shirts bold words
PLAY-OFFS! Guaranteed!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Some sections of the supporters jeered and laughed,
“Play-Offs guaranteed!
The battered warrior, who can hardly last ninety minutes and
The Young Gun in fourteen frays had failed to find the target
Two Geordies rejects
More mouths to feed!”
“Their loss, our gain”, the Gaffer reassured.

Seem to be even further,
When all hope was lost and
The Welsh fiery dragon had laid waste all in its path
Was at the Riverside
The gaffer duo the seasoned warrior and the young gun
Welsh dragon slain,
Treasure banked
The road to plays still long, long away
But in sight.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The flabbergasted tribe of the Boro
Celebrated as befitting such an occasion
With a delicious Parmo
But this time the succulent chicken
Was replaced by tough dragon, but
Still tasted divine.
