All week long, it rained and rained,
Re-writing record books,
The sodden populace complained,
Except, of course, the ducks.

The River Tolka rose and rose,
And Tolka Park got flooded,
They cancelled our league game with Bohs
Because the pitch was “muddied”.
¶ 3

The Shelbourne backroom personnel
Assembled in the dark,
Someone, wading through the swell,
Began to build an ark.
¶ 4

Water, water, everywhere
And not a drop of drink.
The bar was under water, there
Was such a dreadful stink.

In the washed-out changing room,
No neon lighting shone,
And then, amid the mounting gloom,
The floodlights were turned on.
