Dying?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So the Millers from Rotherham
may be no more;
what a sad indictment of
our national game.
A microcosm of society:
the rich get richer
whilst the poor get poorer.
Chelsea’s millions mere drops
in the ocean,
loose change in the pockets
of a Russian billionaire.
Millers haemorrhaging money
so fast the well is running dry.
Over a hundred years
of history slipping
through the fingers
of locals who live,
breathe and bleed Rotherham.
All genuine football fans
hoping, praying they survive;
once the dam breaks
cracks could appear everywhere –
could be our turn next.

Notes

Aldershot was the last team to go out of the Football League, but the spectre of bankruptcy etc is very real for many professional football clubs. As a Swindon Town fan I am only too aware how close we have been to oblivion in the last few years. Good luck to Rotherham!!
