Earth

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Football, keeps me warm in splendid isolation
Wraps me in its nearness but never too near
For comfort and like a lover refuses to leave
And Saturday afternoons my pulse bursts
My veins pummelled by the expectation
A volcano in me
Fit to ignite and burn
Shaken from its apathy
My pockets stuffed with
Bitten nails and my throat
Catching its breath refusing
To let go…

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Football, breaks through the darkness in me
My umbilical cord feeds me with its wisdom
And philosophy and my chaotic soul erupts
Know me not by my city’s concrete and stone
But by the sun that rises by the silent clouds
By the accent of my history
The skin the same as is the bone
Know me (for you should) by my footsteps
That walk the earth that is coloured
Red with blood…

Notes

Football like love is a healer, if you want it to be….
