Embarassed? I’ll Have Nun Of It!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 As the penguins scoured the touch line*
To make sure the team kept shape
The helicopters on their heads just flapped
As the backline made mistakes

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “Play up boys” the sisters said
Play indeed we did
The sisters prayers and yer man upstairs
Inspired united kids

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 “Hold the line, that’s it fine
There’s fifteen minutes to go”
It seemed like an eternity
As the winter wind did blow

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The opposition thought it grand
To take the mick and jest
But we were guided from above
And quickly passed the test

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The jesting ceased as we increased
The score to seven one
Tis great to have God on yer side
As well as six strong nuns

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 “Referee, as Gods my judge
Surely thats a pen”
The sister nearly lost control
Till we went and scored again

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 “Be quite child, don’t get wild
Next time he taps yer shin
When yer going for a fifty fifty ball with him
Make sure yer get stuck in”!

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 With coaching from the touchline
That was heavenly divine
We passed the ball with confidence
Then crossed the half wayline

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 The other team had lost its way
The nuns had seen to that
They’d been up at four this morning
Praying for victory at mass

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 When the whistle went to end the game
The nuns did dance and shout
I heard they had a few bob on
With the other sides chief scout

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 As pink ten bob notes quickly dissappeared
We sat down in the mud
The nuns had landed a gamble
On our skill on sacred cud

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 Oranges left over from half time
Were eaten with such haste
As the nuns bought out the lemonade
To toast sweet victory and its taste

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 “Well played boys you’ve beaten them
You’ve done so fair and square,
They’ll be smiling on the other side of their faces
Next time we play out there”

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 ” Shake their hands, that’s it grand
Three cheers for the other side”
Embarrassed? I’ll have nun of it
With the sisters by me side!

Notes

Penguins was just a nickname for the lovely nuns who taught us as they always wore black and white ( they could have been secret Fulham / Spurs fans).

Helicopters was the nickname for the strange head gear they wore, where we went to convent school in London.
