England Expects

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Flags hang down from windows in houses
Fluttering in an optimistic wave
Patriotism affects the martyr and the knave.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The symbol of Saint George’s Cross rouses
Support and cries of jubilation
Hope to soon bathe the team in heavy adulation.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 As always England think they have a chance
Despite critics singing songs of praise
Of the opponents whose skills leave others in a daze.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Only need a result does it matter if they dance
On the ball and show off their ability?
If England get knocked out is it just an act of futility?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 White and red soon floods the streets
An atmosphere that can often turn sour
When hopes are dashed when it isn’t our hour.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Fear and excitement when England meets
The teams and the games are underway
With the trophy in sight hoping this will be our day.
