England? Who are they?

McClaren’s ineptitude only matched
by England’s pathetic players.
What a joke that some pundits
blamed the sodden Wembley pitch.
Reputations in tatters,
scattered to all parts,
players left the pitch at half-time
to boos and catcalls
from angry England fans.
Lots of Sol searching
in the dressing room,
but Carson’s calamitous clanger
proved a Bridge too far for
England’s pampered primadonnas.
Midfield ‘maestros’ outmanoeuvered
by cracking Croatian counterparts:
quick one touch passing on
slick Wembley surface a delight,
a lesson to England’s cumbersome robots.
Lampard lumbered, SWP ran up blind alleys;
Cole clogged, crocked, cutting an
increasingly frustrated figure.
And Stevie G?
A mere shadow of his all action,
normally charismatic self.
Squawking at his team mates,
flitting across the strength-sapping pitch
like a ghost. G…. for Ghost.
Only Crouch could hold
his head up high.
Quality finish after
Beckham’s pinpoint cross.
Ironic really.
And Bilic?
Smug, self satisfied smirk
said that his side deserved their win.
He’s right, dead right.
And England? Who are they?
Exactly.
