England’s Going Home

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Time allegiances get blurry.
I’m supporting the Azzurri.
Crime. Let’s end this in a hurry.
England’s going home.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 If three results are equal chances:
it’s four percent England advances.*
That explains the nervous glances.
England’s going home.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But, at least you have a ticket.
There’s a chance that you can nick it.
One more match where you can kick it,
if England’s going home

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Tell me “there’s a chance”,
like Dumb and Dumber*.
This football romance
won’t last the summer.
My Brazil trip
really was a bummer.
England’s going home..

Notes

*If there are three equally possible results from three remaining matches in Group D and England requires one of those in each match, the odds are 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3= 1/27 = just under 4%.

Actually, the odds I read have Italy and England each 60% to beat Costa Rica and all results for Italy/Uruguay roughly even. Allowing nothing for England having to win bymultiple goals, the odds are roughly 12%, or 1/8. Still better than Canada (and Spain).

But dare we say there is one?
The words straws and clutching come to mind. Non?
