will we ever win again
when all it boils down to
is the scoring of a pen?

Notes

First Quarter Final :

Portugal 2 England 2 (a.e.t.)

An all too familiar story : Portugal win on penalties.
This time it’s Darius Vassel who has the misfortune to miss the decisive penalty.

David Beckham also missed his – that’s 3-in-a-row for England now. And he had a poor game.

Again, England defended stoutly – but that doesn’t win games.
Michael Owen ended his goal drought after 2 minutes.
Wayne Rooney went off injured after only 27 minutes – the turning point in the game?

Helder Postiga, who couldn’t score for Spurs, equalised in the 84th minute.

Sol Campbell then had a good goal disallowed in the last minute – a home decision by the Swiss referee?

Portugal went ahead in the second period of injury time, an unstoppable shot from Rui Costa.

Frank Lampard equalised, before the game went to the dreaded penalties.
