Euro 2004 Diary : Day 16 thru Day 18

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Sunday 27th June

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I wanted to watch the match
But what about
the beds that had to be made
the hoovering that had to be done
the pile of ironing that had to be reduced rather than steadied

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I wanted to watch the match
But what about
the children that had to be put to bed
the stories that had to be read
the school clothes to be readied

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I wanted to watch the match
But what about
the dinner that had to be cooked
the grass that had to be cut
the beds that had to be weeded

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I wanted to watch the match
But what about
the car that had to washed
the yard that had to be swept
the lawn that had to be seeded

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I wanted to watch the match
But I was more-than-gently reminded
that this would have been 16 nights on the trot
“of non-stop soccer” (it’s called football)
“soccer” (football)
“I’ll call it whatever I **@!£$** well like!
and what about the cows that have to be milked
the hens that have to be fed
and the horses that have to be groomed?
the goats that have to be tethered
the donkey that has to be neutered
and the lame mouse that has to be entombed?”
(but we don’t have ….)

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But of course this was no reasoned argument
no Shakespearian soliloquy
no masterful mantra
no mellifluous monologue
more a rant
at that which had my eyes all-a-gog

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 I wanted to watch the match
To see Nedved’s class
To see a Poborsky pass
To see Koller soar
To see Baros score
To see a Cech save

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 I wanted to watch the match
But I’m not that brave

Notes

Last of the Quarter Final matches :

Czech Republic 3 Denmark 0
Koller, Baros (2)

And so I taped it
And watched it on Day 17 (no matches)
And went through the DT’s on Day 18 (no matches)
