Euro 2012 Day 4 Match 1

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 England 1 France 1

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Once more unto the breach friends, once more;
and hurl your bodies ‘gainst the Gallic fire.
For Harry and St. George, the lion will roar
but this time, with a softer timbre, for
the troops are clad in more modest attire.
No longer does their arrogance of jaw
proclaim their god-giv’n right to win the prize;
no longer does the mouth outrun the brain
and pull a gauze across their red-cross’d eyes.
Reality has stilled their gung-ho cries
and lower’d expectations now may gain
success of sorts. This new approach is wise
and sets the men more squarely on the tracks
to play without that burden on their backs.

Notes

England 1 France 1
Ironically, new England-lite (of expectation) could do well this time
