Euro 2012 Day 8 Match 2

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 England 3 Sweden 2

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 They said that he’d be cautious
and would make the purists nauseous
but in fact the game was thrilling to the marrow.
One-nil up and two-one down
before the forwards went to town,
it ebbed and flowed just like the tide at Barrow.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 They said that he’d be pensive,
try to play it quite defensive
but in fact the English goals were quite exquisite.
And what a goal to win it
in the sixty somethingth minute!
Three goals isn’t being defensive, is it?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 They said he’d set his stall out,
pack the box to keep the ball out
but in fact the Swedes discovered lots of spaces.
They would all stream forward, sparking
a reluctance for close marking,
with players picked up on an ad-hoc basis.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 They said (with hint of censure)
that he didn’t do adventure
but soon their staid predictions sounded hollow.
And with Rooney now returning,
are the English fortunes turning,
though trophy-lifting doesn’t always follow?

Notes

Well done England. Good win.
