Euro 2012 XIII : rest day

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Ah, finally, a day of rest and recuperation
After 12 days of incessant incarceration
A time to catch up, on household chores
I must get to it, early doors
A list, as long as my arm… and growing
Though to be honest, my appetite is plateauing….
What I really feel like … is more footy!
I scour the channels for any action
Or any round-ups, or an omnibus
Whether on terrestrial, or Sky+
I even sit down in front of a blank screen
And feel drawn
To dreams of green
Be it pitch or kit
And so to whit
I’ll compile my own best of .. so far…

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Roy’s boys and unexpected poise
Avoiding Spain (if not the rain)
Topping the group
The Irish fans, what a troupe
Blaszczykowski, with a blazer
Zlatan Ibrahamovich –
Volleys parallel to the pitch;
Ronaldo to the fore
Watching Lescott score
Walcott (when revealed)
Danny Well-back-heeled
Half-time: nachos with cheddar
Andy’s samsonite header
Which had us all a-carousing
(wrong time of year for a-carolling)…
And Stevie G, roaming free

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And the worst of?
Ireland’s performances – more nauseating than NAMA
England’s GLT karma
A shot shy van Persie
Karagounis pleading for mercy
The hosts bowing out too early
The Dutch, all disconcerted and surly
Spain’s “ghost nine”, meaning no strikers
Whereas at the mine, the strikers picket
As fiscal control, hits a sticky wicket
And Greece, spoiling the fun…. no chance to pun…
“Early Euro exit!”

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Quarter Finals start tonight…
Paint brush abandoned, stiff n white
It’ll need a bucket of meths…
Meantime with excitement mounting, I need to take .. a few .. deep ..
breaths….

Notes

NAMA : Ireland’s “bad bank” vehicle

GLT : Goal Line Technology

Reference to Spanish Miners striking, with Spain’s economy under pressure

And yes, painting last night, in readiness for Gavin’s return from the Gaeltacht
