Euro 2016 IX : Ireland out

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We score!
89 minutes –
which would be perfect
only
it’s 89 to go
too long?
unfortunately yes
and the hosts press
and press some more
and it’s lax defending
that allows them to score
and then they get a second
enough to win them the game
but at least our exit wasn’t tame
we gave it our all
just couldn’t keep the ball
when it mattered
and with just the 10 men
we ended up totally shattered

That the land o’ Plunkett
So nearly upset the apple cart
Dans le terrain de Descartes?

Notes

France 2 – 1 Republic of Ireland

Ireland went ahead with a first minute penalty from Robbie Brady, and played excellently for the whole first half.
In the 2nd half, France showed their class.
Shane Duffy was sent off for a desperate lunge that prevented Griezmann from his hat-trick.
