Euro 2016 VIII: Brexit II

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Brexit 1 (regrexit even), is well and truly cemented
No matter how hard the remnants of Remain may appeal
There’s no going back, there’s no relenting
For it’s now a done deal

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And so it is for Brexit II
where the northern third of the westernmost isle
trudges off home to contemplate it’s undesired future
of border controls, of fiscal uncertainty
of having to deal with isolationism
and with unstitching to be done
from the fabric of an ordained feudalism

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 but, hardened by the proximity of parochialism
under someone else’s ideology
where another’s dogma dictates dynasties
where the credo of Christianity can be cut into competing schisms
where lies an unsure future – stoicism will again prevail
as with today’s Brexit – Irish heroes hailed
the Welsh Dragon repelled, but a Euro Bailout quelled
by Gareth the Giant

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 but Norn Iron leave behind a discordant duo
one scholarly, the other far from
and the latter likes to unstitch, every November
the poppy off a patron’s garb
to cause ructions, to raise hackles
but here he is, tempered well, with his timely tackles

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 of one thing we can be sure
regarding Brexit –
there’s more to come

Notes

Last 16:
Wales 1 – 0 Northern Ireland
Gareth McAuley scores an own goal from a wicked Gareth Bale cross.
He’d been quiet most of the game, but needed just that one moment where he was left unattended…
