Everyone Used To Be Up For The Cup…

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The most memorable editions of ‘Top of the Pops’
Were when the Cup Final records were in the shops.
And that’s not to say they were in any way good
The music police would have them banned
This tuneless & unattractive band
The very epitome of bland
But they didn’t really understand.
I loved them just because they were part of that whole Cup Final brand.
Even when Everton were in the studio
Bellowing ‘Here We Go’
I never needed to ask myself why?
(But I did have to tape it off the radio because it was too embarassing to buy)

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 What would we do, without ‘the Boys in Brighton Blue’?
Taking on the ‘Glory Glory’ boys @ Man U? And giving us all a special treat
‘We were On Top Of The World’, it was in our hands & sometimes @ our feet.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Even the F.A. cottoned on to the trick. ‘This Time’ & ‘We’re Going All the Way’ kept us optimistic.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And we could see that the boys who got off the team bus. Weren’t so very different from any one of us. They could also try to do things that they weren’t particullary good at.
And they didn’t have to nurse their image rights
Or want to see their name up in lights
They did things for the Hell of it, they didn’t care about looking silly
Like your Nan doing the Hokey Cokey
Or your Dad on the Kareoke
They just wanted to celebrate, the things that they’d achieved with their fans.
And am I just being all misty eyed & romantic, but is that still something that everyone understands?
