Fair Play To FIFA – Yeah Right!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 if winning’s without value*
if won in unfair ways*
if cheating brings no pleasure
then how come fraud still pays?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 how crass and sad and meaningless
are FIFA’s weak excuses?
while France move on and Ireland fume
but always football loses
your Fair Play rules are laughable
a country’s hopes are wrecked
your useless talk of honesty
what point in this ‘Respect’?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 how many years must we endure
decisions such as these
the hapless task for referees
who sees just what he sees
and cannot have the back up
of new technology
the game’s moved on to such a height
it’s time for sanity

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 you’ve made us sit all neat in rows
you’ve priced it to the skies
you’ve upped security at games
you’ve fought the racist cries
you talk about distraction
you talk about the cash
while round the pitch it’s endless
as garish adverts flash
but still you ban the video
the answers it would bring
transparency and clarity
why can’t we use the thing?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I sat this summer so enthralled
on Centre Court to find
a crowd all roaring as the screen
reveals it’s on the line –
how long before our cries are heard
too much now lies at stake
we’ve got the screens let’s use ’em
give in for football’s sake
there’s so much money flying round
whatever you may claim
we all love instant replays
let’s use them in the game!

Notes

Enough. It’s time. Bring in video replays at games for refs now please.
What’s the point in having screens at grounds anyway? Imagine how brilliant it would be at games. What makes thing worse always, is that when we watch highlights on TV or som game on a big screen – we see the replays the the ref doesn’t see and it just increases the anger more and more.
FIFA Fair Play
Rule 1 (of 10)
1. Play Fair
Winning is without value*if victory has been achieved unfairly*or dishonestly. Cheating is easy, but brings no pleasure. Playing fair requires courage and character. It is also more satisfying. Fair play always has its reward, even when the game is lost. Playing fair earns respect, while cheating only brings shame. Remember: it is only a game. And games are pointless unless played fairly.
