Fifteen Euros

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 For once I knocked off early,
And went out for a stroll,
With fifteen euros in my pocket
Burning a great hole.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 One crumpled note, five tarnished coins,
Just itching to be spent,
Were all that I had over
After food, clothes, bills and rent.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I could have bought a book or two,
An underpriced CD…
But I procured a ticket
For the Match at Marassee.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I went to a Tobacconist’s,
And proffered my ID,
Coughed up my fifteen euros
For a right-side South End seat.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Then I felt tired and thirsty,
I fancied a coffee.
Alas, I’d no more money left,
My wallet was empty.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Instead I toddled quickly home,
And brewed a cuppa tea,
Then sat down with my feet up
In front of the TV.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Fifteen measly euros,
All earned with my brow’s sweat.
Fifteen lousy euros,
Yet I’m prepared to bet:

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 If I’d ten million euros,
No happier they’d make me
Than those Fifteen that paid for me
To be at Marassee!

I bought my ticket for the match at Marassi on Thursday 18th January, around 5pm. The match between Genoa and Mantova the following evening finished Genoa 2 Mantova 1. And, by the way, the atmosphere was terrific!
