Fifty Years On

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The World Cup was won by England fifty years ago
And there was a very special player
From Fulham you may know.
A solid, strong defender,
George Cohen is his name,
He gave his all to football
For the love of the Beautiful Game.
Now fifty years from that epic win
And to honour their special club man,
The folks at Fulham Football Club
Celebrate his dedication
In the best way that they can.
He soon will be standing at Craven Cottage
Alongside Johnny Haynes,
A statue of George is being planned
With respect that never wanes.
Fulham was his only club
Throughout his entire career,
459 games with the Whites,
Dedication the fans hold dear.
He won 37 caps for England
As their regular strong right-back,
Supporting wingers with overlapping runs
As they went on the attack.
In the Honours List of 2000
He was awarded an MBE,
Acknowledging his contribution
To his club and beloved country.
George Cohen is now an ambassador
For the club where he rose to fame,
A true gentleman of football,
We will never forget his name.
