Fifty Years, Sixty Seconds

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Our lives play out to constant noise
Car alarms, thumping bass, it all annoys
When silence falls
It is like a blanket of comfort
Peace, respite, time to think
With decorum and dignity
We acknowledge loss

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Silence says far more
A mark of respect to honour
Those that this day is for
We should not forget
Fate silenced many that night
We should echo their silence
That is our right

Notes

A minutes applause is apt for some tributes but not, I feel, for the 50th anniversary of the Munich air crash. I am surprised that Manchester City have expressed concern that their fans may not respect this silence. I don’t think it’s much to ask. And if anybody doesn’t wish to join in, that’s their right. They can just sit down and shut up and watch while others observe it!
