First Kick

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Somewhere a girl just kicked a football.
The way that it felt made her smile.
She promised herself she’d add one to her shelf
and that ‘sporty’ would be her new style.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Somewhere a boy just kicked a football.
Though poorer than most other boys,
this first kick showed the way to be rich through his play
just partaking in all the Game’s joys.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Somewhere a wheelchair meets a football.
Its occupant’s world shines again.
Indoor teams four-a-side, two goals six metres wide,
one new start for eight women and men.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Somewhere an old man kicks a football,
as he first did decades ago,
and the ball flies as true as if stitched leather knew
its reaction could make that man glow.
