Fish That Wander.. in Carlisle

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 while premier fans in thousands
enjoy spotless pricey comfort
this weekend
with images of Tsunami
still fresh in minds
and collection boxes on every corner
lest we forget
spare a thought
for those
closer to home

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 while football careers on regardless
how cruel this weather for Carlisle United
currently sitting second
in the Nationwide Conference
everything swimming along nicely
metaphorically speaking
until now

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 imagine then
waking up to find
your crossbars under water
your ground an ocean
your seats and terraces a sea of mud
your tunnel with a flood line
that would be the envy of Florence
your players houses uninhabitable
potentially millions of pounds worth of damage
and worse still
two as yet un-named
now famed
un-claimed
and through the care of ground-staff
un-maimed
fish
gently training
through thick and fin
on what was your pitch

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 welcome to Brunton Park
after the deluge

Notes

With thanks and all best wishes to the web-master and staff at Carlisle and also for the title! The good news is that the ground is safe, but such was the scene when two fish were rescued this week at Carlisle United. To see some lovely pics of the illustrious pair and read about “The Fish That Wander” do visit the still homeless fish at:
