Football In This Country

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 whatd’ya fancy doing what’ya got in mind
I’ll tell you what the plan is everything’s fine
you know where I’m going you know what I like
you know what I’m into morning noon and night
football
in this country

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 it’s really good to see you – I’d love to stick around
I’d rea’ly love to chat but I’m headin’ for the ground
I’m going to football

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I’m usually in – I’m usually around
but If I’m not in then I could be footie bound
football!
24-7 365 52 60 60
football!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 have you signed up as a member?
have you got the new club phone?
have you bought the new away kit?
have you club-ified your home
for football ?
have you got your points card with you?
have you shown your loyalty?
have you got the young ones saving
for all eternity
for football – in this country ?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 but you know what really gets me ev’ry single time
is people in the boxes all talking drinking wine
missing all the action their backs towards the game
designer suits and dips with prawns all trying to stake a claim
and ticket prices running wild for mediocrity
our football world an island now that screams celebrity
I said I dunno – this country

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 and I’ll tell you something else that I really really hate
is Paul Gascoigne not being overweight
and English football tourists on package holidays
in their shorts at Gatwick with t-shirts on that say
“World Cup Beer Tour- We’re Engand til we die”
and “we’re goin’ to Germany to drink the place dry!”
I said i dunno this country

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 and swapping our integrity for humourless remarks
the subtle voice of racism still blaring in the parks
the mindless lack of moving on when all the world has changed
the growing homophobia and sexist chants at games
I said I dunno this country

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 our pampered stars and managers like spokesmen for our time
living lives we dream of in palaces so fine
with Posh Spice and Beckham not having any friends
all that lifestyle but going round the bend
and talented young players with money in their eyes
making loads of promises and most of them lies
I said I dunno this country

Notes

excuse the rant..I could go on …but you get the picture..
inspired by Steve Coogan and the Spice Girls …now there’s a good name for a band ?
