Football League Review

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Equality in a modest supplement; an insert
To flesh out flimsy, lifeless eight pagers. It
Blossomed late sixties/early seventies – a
Vehicle for Hardaker’s opinions, for pen pals,
For woolly statisticians – and all teams got
The same treatment; Manchester to Mansfield,
No matter…centrespread team groups, the
Top Ten players, on looks you know – and
Earnest pieces by Supporters’ Club members.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Over seventy clubs participated at the peak, but
The glossy magazine-style progs soon took over
And it was but a matter of time. FLR became
League Football, but the basic format altered
Little. Still, fondly remembered when you
Got hold of a copy, if your club didn’t carry it.
Lots to read, and those vivid colour pictures
Of your heroes – so valued in the days before
Media saturation. A collectors’ dream, it surely was.
