Football Superstar

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Out in the stands they chant his name
His twists and turns light up the game
Called the best player of his age
Trying to justify his wage
Applauded by the fans with praise
Traps slack opponents in his maze

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A superstar among his peers
Attends all the film premieres
He sponsors the big companies
Accepts their big pay cheques with glee
But armchair pundits know the type
They all just don’t believe the hype

Notes

Watching Serie A late one night and noticed that some teams have a player who may be talented but gains more fame than is warranted. Not intending to attack Italian football, I’m a big fan, but it just brought the idea of superstars to my attention. Also true for a number of English clubs where the word football player should be changed to football celebrity.
