Football’s Clever Inventions

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What did we have before goalposts
did players have to put jumpers down
and who decided to toss a coin
I bet it was a farthing or half a crown ?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And who invented football boots
did they play before in bare feet
and who came up with corner flags
as you have to admit they’re kind of neat ?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Then who had a eureka moment
saying:”these goals they need a net”
and was it a bloke called William Hill
who became the first to have a bet ?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 When the first player made a bad tackle
by going into his opponent really hard,
was someone watching thinking to himself,
“if it was up to me I’d have given him a red card.”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And when did they create the penalty kick
was it for those who liked to dive and cheat
and before we played on football pitches
were all matches contested on the street ?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But where would we be without these ideas
those smart inventions still used to day ?
Yet for me the cleverest of the lot
has to be the magical free kick spray !

Notes

I saw a picture in a book recently of football being played way back in the 1890’s I think it was,and I’m sure the goalposts were made of rope or something ? Anyway it inspired me to write this.
By the way the chap who invented the free kick spray is a Brazilian brought up in poverty who came up with the spray fourteen years ago.
He now looks like becoming a millionaire so good luck to him I say.
