Football’s First Lady.

On the rugged Northumberland coast
On that glorious day in 66′
The local’s proposed a toast.
‘Here’s to our Jackie and Bobby’
Their voices rang out loud
And a small silver haired lady
Was feeling extremely proud.
For she knew her boy’s were special
She had encouraged them to play
On the cobbled back lanes in Ashington
And on the sand’s at Whitley Bay.
Football ran through her family
Her cousin Jackie Milburn had made his name
And she knew when they were youngsters
Her boy’s would do the same.
And when Bobby Moore lifted the trophy
And brought pride to each English heart
Alf Ramsey may have been the catalyst
But Cissie Charlton played her part.

The Mother of Jackie and Sir Bobby Charlton
who was still coaching the local school football team
At the age of 73 in her beloved Ashington.
