For Frank Lampard and Paulo Ferreira

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In the heated passion of the moment
When common sense can go astray
Lets not forget true friendship
You are team-mates every day

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 One is sad and downcaste
The other on a high
But amidst the mayhem of a World Cup win
They catch each others eye

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Though one is deeply hurt they exchange shirts
One wipes the others tears
Soft words of solace spoken are a token of true caring
Whilst the hostile crowd still cheer

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Such aware and sensitive footballers
Are not it seems a common thing
So from these two blokes there’s at least a ray of hope
In these days of me, me, me and bling?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 To win, to win is everything
When we take to lush green space
But lets not forget the side that lost
For whom our friends and team-mates play?

Notes

I’ve not written this poem just because these two blokes happen to play for Chelsea.

But because it takes real friendship and caring of the highest order to go and console the other fella when he’s just had his World Cup dream and his whole world turned upside down!

And that’s what I witnessed after the match on Saturday.

Yer an eighteen carat diamond Paulo son!

peace.

kev.
