For Kyode Odejami.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Stood alone on the hallowed Wemberly turf
When that final ref’s whistle was blast
His face not concealing how deeply he hurt,
After missing that one easy chance.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Team mates tried hard to console him
With a shrug or kind word to his ear
Though in truth, it was him they were holding
To blame, for their cup run ending in tears.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 As he looked to the sky, he asked himself why
And how did he squander that chance?
With the keeper to beat, and one each within reach
He was thinking of ways he would dance.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Such thoughts now, had flown out the window
As suited subs smiled then were gone
He wanted someone, something to make the pain go
As the winning teams fans sung their songs.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 A real look of dejection formed on his complextion
And his legs though they tried would not move
He was stuck to the spot, and true fans you know what
He was hurting deep down, as we all of us do, when we lose!

Notes

A few days in football is a long time and I’m glad to see yer man, Kyode Odejani, bounced back with a brace against Watford last night to help his team, in their fight to avoid the drop.

After going all the way up there and getting knocked out of the cup by Odejami and his Barnsley team-mates, me kids and me have started to take an interest in the happenings at Oakwell!

Pretty strange or what?
