For Sale

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 buying a house
is a bit like Fantasy Football –
you have to look ahead, and think of the re-sale value.
will you be lumbered with a stinker?
will it be en-suite or sweet FA?
and then the lines get blurred :
utility – now was that room, or player?
curtains – drawn because we’re shy, or the end of that shyster?
assist – removals people knocking at the door, or the last knock-on?
corner plot – end terrace, or the target of abuse over by the flag?
clean sheets – spotless for slumbers, or defences not caught napping?
early doors – tradesmen ahead of schedule, or Big Ron back in favour?
transfer hitch – a solicitor’s slip-up, or a website crashing?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 and then the likeness converges
the metaphor merges
and the money runs out –
just when you had so many changes you wanted to make

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 ah well … there’s always next season!
