Gabriel at Anfield

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Now Gabriel went down to Anfield
And walked with the Kopites in Red
Took in the sights of the miracles
And thought “We’ve bugger all like this with God!”
He stood in the Kop with his red scarf
Held high o’er his head as he swayed
And he opened his lungs with a passion
As the Redmen came out on the pitch to play
There was Cally and Keegan and Joey
McDermott and Smithy and Tosh
But it was Heighway whose lightning so thrilling
Held the angel enthralled and agog
When he flew back to heaven after the match
God wanted to know what he’d found
So he told Him of Shankly and Paisley
And the faithful who met at the ground
But “Gaffer I have to now ask you”
Gabriel pleaded of God unabashed
“The wings that you gave to Steve Heighway
Well, can I have a pair that’s as fast?”

Notes

“I was born by the banks of the Mersey
Facin’ the Irish Sea
It might not look like heaven to you
But its home sweet home to me”
