GALLANT IN DEFEAT

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Hopes were high on Friday
When England came to play
Brazil their next opponents
In the World Cup far away!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We got up very early
Had breakfast and got dressed
Then we sat and watched
Michael Owen at his best!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Jumping up and screaming
When he scored his goal
Now to keep their nerve
Was our team’s next role!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Just before half time
The Brazilians changed the score
Now our players must defend
Much harder than before!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 A free kick to Brazil
Gave them a two – one lead
You couldn’t blame our Keeper
Their man he had great speed!

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Then the Brazilian scorer
Much to our surprise
Received the Referee’s red card
Right before our eyes!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Even with a ten man team
They played a brilliant game
That either team had to lose
Was just a crying shame!

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Off to school with heavy hearts
We then had to go
Our St George flags flying
Because we’re proud you know!

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Our English lads had done their best
Are coming home – now beat
But rest assured each one of them
Is gallant in defeat!

Notes

This poem is self explanatary really but I’m sure lots of fans can relate to how we felt that day.
