Give Tuesday A Break

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 To all you football scribbl–ers
a promise can you make
when writing about football
give Tuesday night a break.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 You describe atmospheric Wednesday nights
at Tottenham’s White Hart Lane
but a cup thriller on a Tuesday night
is treated with disdain.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Scouts don’t watch players on sunny days
in Plymouth or in Rome
no– it’s always on a Tuesday night
wet, hungry, far from home.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Seems everyone plays Grimsby
on a rainy, Tuesday night
and the scribes they use this cliche
almost every time they write.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Yes the purists love their Wednesday match,
a cold night is ‘ crisp and cheery’
but a mild night up north on Tuesday
is described as “cold and dreary.”

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 So I’m not trying to be no Tennyson
or even William Blake
I’m just trying to say ” Come on you guys,”
give Tuesday night a break.

Notes

Reading a football article and seeing the use of the term’ a cold Tuesday night in Grimsby’ for about the eighty sixth time , decided it was time someone started sticking up for the much maligned Tuesday.
