Golden days.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 He lived for his Greyhounds and football
Horses, woodbines, and ale
Then early one January morning
My da recieved a cheque in the mail.
I think it came from Vernons
Or Littlewoods, one of the two
Twenty-Three points he had claimed on
And his dreams all at once had come true.
Straight off to the colliery post office
Cashed the cheque for Two hundred pound
And on Saturday promised to take me
To see Newcastle play in the Fourth round.
We queued in the snow for our tickets
So on the Gallowgate end we could stand
Da bought me a programme and peanuts
And on the field played a colliery brass band.
A day sprinkled for me with pure stardust
Bolton Wanderers at home in the cup
Thanks to that magical day in the Fifties
When my Da’s football coupon came up.
