Greatest Football Poetry X1.. On Paper /On-Line

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 the time would come I always knew it
and prompted by our butler Stuart
I now divulge my master plan
the finest poets in the land
from this and many other times
who waxed it with their classic lines
on-line and also on the page
with quill or biro or on-stage
the greatest team on paper yes
a scary choice I must confess
so guys and Stuart just for you
if I were boss here’s what I’d do

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 between the sticks strong as a mast
here’s WILLIAM BLAKE back from the past
with playful lines that never slack
there’s WILLIE SHAKESPEARE at the back
alongside trusty ROBERT FROST
in snow or rain you’re never lost
whilst in midfield young EDWARD LEAR
whose witty rhymes control the sphere
with MILLIGAN and A.A.MILNE
it’s child-like but it’s such a thrill

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 we’ve skilful BENJI ZEPHANIAH
diversity plus heart and fire
ATTILA and JOHN HEGLEY shine
with IAN MCMILLAN our frontline’s
a frenzied mix both deep and pure
with KAHLIL GIBRAN bound to score

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 and on the bench an all time great
JOHN COOPER CLARK who might be late
with JOHNNY DONNE & WORDSWORTH too
on hand if we let in a few

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 a supergroup without a band
the finest poets in the land
from this and many other times
who waxed it with their classic lines
on-line and also on the page
with quill or biro or on-stage
I’d love to put them to the test
the greatest team on paper yes
