Groundhog Day

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A sniffing snout from ‘neath the earth
Investigates the world’s re-birth,
As buds appear on long-dead twigs
And noonday twigs gain colour.
It wonders if it’s time to break
Harsh winter’s sleep and spring awake,
Gauging if the panorama
Needs to get much fuller.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And then he cries, “Setanta Cup!
Thank Goodness I have woken up!
My hibernation’s at an end,
The season is upon us!”
And from the crowd, a mighty roar
Means football has returned once more,
And thoughts again are focussed on
The yearly quest for honours.
