Hail, Hail, Die Schwarzgelben.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We’ve been here before and we’ll be here again
So! Tell me to shut me big trap
The way that I see it, so called people’s game
Has a way to go in sorting its act.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A score a head last night in The League Cup
With over forty one thousand I’m told
Twenty pound a ticket isn’t asking too much
If every seat in the stadium gets sold?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Put your hand in your pocket do what you’re told?
We’ve all taken orders like these
Even now when it’s tight and the indoor’s cash flow
Can get stretched by the price of a brief.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Travelling Scousers paid fifty-one quid
To cheer on their La’s v The Manc’s
Prawn sandwich brigade even swerved season tickets
As a price out of order? Saying sorry you Yank’s but no thanks.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Our allies in Dortmund have set an example
In the ongoing battle v cost
By refusing to pay OTT and travel to Schalke
Times fifteen hundred, so a right load of gate gelt was lost.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Schalke fans questioning an increase, as you should do
During a recent club/fan tete a tete
Were labelled by Felix Magath as a small group
“The Small Group” number three thousand members to date.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Twenty two Euro for fans to stand up?
Seems a pretty fair gate tax to me
Yeah but two weeks before it was thirteen Euro fifty
Which is one hell of a hefty increase.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Five an half quid for an hot dog,
Programmes at three quid a pop
I’ve seen mums and dads with the look of those eternally lost
As they check till receipts from club shop.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 With away ends stood empty as our TV screens show
Will clubs bite on the bullet and fold
Allowing fans to watch games for affordable dough
Bringing stay away punters back in from the cold?

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Or will telly provide what the working fan cannot
Now the gate tax is out of his league
Seems to me empty stadia’s a waste once a fortnight
But hey what do I know? Do clubs listen to punters like me?

Notes

A big up to fans of The Black Yellows a.k.a Borussia Dortmund,1500 of whom refused to travel to Schalke and a pay a massive increase in the cost of a match ticket
Editor Note: Another worthy contribution to our current Things We’d Change Poems section

Even those fans who had purchased tickets beforehand and couldn’t a refund, swallowed the loss joined the swelling ranks of the boycott.

Schalke fans were labelled a small group by manager Felix Magath, after complaining about the rising cost of tickets to watch their club and so went on to form The Small Group which has 3000 members at the last count, forget player power, here’s a fantastic bunch of fans who are real fantasts!

Er I hope I’ve got this last bit right it should mean visionarys!

Peace.

Kev.
