Half Rhyme Break

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 inspired by a wordsmith named Ingle
whilst recalling the great half-time tingle
on that time when we fans used to mingle
I was driven to offer this thought

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 for we’d often change ends
with our visiting friends
but now we are stuck and can only pretend
in our safe little self-contained fort

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 we are forced to endure
fifteen minutes or more
of inaudible music on tannoys so poor
while we queue without rhyme without reason

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 so how perfectly apt if they kept us enrapt
and they filled every half-time with poems and raps
i’d be there like a shot even if I was crap
and I’d do it for tickets all season

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 for Atilla at Brighton doth wax to the fans
and I know one or two much more brassy than bands
it would certainly throw them and disrupt their plans
now poetry’s the new rock n’roll

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 for let us remember the cause for this site
the reaon we wanted to rhyme and to write
there’s a gap in the market it’s looming so bright
like a chance or some huge gaping goal

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 so let it be common and known through the land
that poets on touchlines in toilets and stands
shall throw us a poem and be there on hand
to lift up those heads hung in shame

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 there’s a waiting fan base
in the obvious place
it’s a pretty big pitch but we’d tart up the place
i think it would liven the game

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 there’s only one problem as I far I see
it’s the vibe of the crowd that just might get to me
for i’ve stood in that tunnel in games at Chelsea
and i swear it’s a no place for the shy

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 it’s like Star Wars or Rome where they’d give you the thumb
and your legs start to wobble your senses go numb
if you knew stuff by heart you could still lose your tongue
but i’d still like to give it a try

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 It would surely be better than wheeling out men
who were stars in the fifties – again and again
reminding us how we’ve done nothing since then
what we need is some strength with our tea

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 for its perfectly clear
that the future is here
its in sonnets and couplets and free verse I swear
at the match give us footie-poetry
